DAY 1:
First Encounter with the Holy City
In Tibetan, Lhasa means “Sacred Land” or “Land of the Buddha.” It is considered the spiritual heart of Tibet. The drive from the airport to the city center takes about one hour, offering a first glimpse of the stunning highland scenery.
Today’s main goal is to acclimatize to the altitude. There are no major activities scheduled. In the evening, we’ll have a welcome dinner together, get to know one another, and go over the details of the journey ahead.
After dinner, you’re free to enjoy some leisure time — perhaps take a gentle walk through the city and soak in your first impressions of Lhasa.
DAY 2:
Step into Tibetan Faith: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Street
Potala Palace – A World Heritage Wonder
Towering above Lhasa, the Potala Palace is the world’s highest palace and one of Tibetan Buddhism’s most sacred sites. Built in the 7th century and expanded over time, it is divided into the White Palace and the Red Palace . Inside are priceless relics, including statues of Songtsen Gampo and Shakyamuni, intricate murals, and ancient scriptures.Jokhang Temple – The Spiritual Heart of Tibet
Founded in the 7th century, Jokhang Temple is the most revered shrine in Tibet, housing the life-sized statue of the 12-year-old Shakyamuni brought by Princess Wencheng.Barkhor Street – The Living Pilgrimage Circuit
Barkhor Street began as a path for pilgrims circumambulating Jokhang Temple. Today it remains a sacred kora while also serving as a vibrant district of culture and commerce. Pilgrims, traders, and locals converge here, making it the beating heart of Lhasa’s spiritual and daily life.
DAY 3:
Sacred Lakes and Glaciers: From Lhasa to Shigatse via Yamdrok & Karola
Yamdrok Lake
One of the three sacred lakes in Tibet, this freshwater lake is as clear as jade and sweet enough to drink. The deep blue lake merges with distant snowy peaks, flanked by uniquely Tibetan villages and herds of yak and sheep, creating a serene and heart-opening landscape.
Karola Glacier
One of Tibet’s three major continental glaciers, Karola Glacier sits against the backdrop of Noijin Kangsang, one of Tibet’s four sacred snow mountains. The glacier descends from the misty peak down to just a few hundred meters from the roadside.
Though decades of dust from the nearby road have created a black-and-white layered appearance, the upper glacier glows in sunlight like a massive Thangka scroll hanging on the mountainside. Karola gained fame as the filming location for movies like Red River Valley, The Battle of Gyantse, and The Knot.
DAY 4:
Towards the Roof of the World: From Shigatse to Rongbuk Monastery and EBC
Mount Everest (Qomolangma)
Travel along one of the most scenic border highways and admire the majestic Himalayan range. Along the way, enjoy distant views of towering peaks including Makalu , Lhotse , and Cho Oyu. Rising to 8,848m, Mount Everest—Qomolangma in Tibetan—is the highest mountain on earth, straddling the border of China and Nepal. Its summit is crowned with eternal snow, and from afar, hanging glaciers and gleaming silver peaks create a breathtaking and awe-inspiring spectacle.
Rongbuk Monastery
Perched at about 5,100m, Rongbuk Monastery is the highest monastery in the world. The setting is stark yet sublime, with panoramic views of the Himalayas. The new Everest Base Camp lies nearby, and on clear days, you may even witness the mystical “flag clouds” streaming from the summit of Everest, like a flame of life dancing in the sky.
DAY 5:
Descending from Everest: Gyatso La Pass to Shigatse
At the break of dawn, rise early to witness the unforgettable sunrise over Mount Everest. While the surrounding Himalayan giants still lie in shadow, Everest shines first, draped in dazzling hues of morning light like the robes of a goddess. Traveling onward through the mighty Himalayas, you’ll cross the Gawu La Pass , where the panorama is breathtaking—Everest towers above a necklace of world-class peaks including Lhotse , Makalu, Cho Oyu , Gyachung Kang , and the awe-inspiring Shishapangma, the only 8,000m peak entirely within China.
We will get an early start today to cross the Gyatso La Pass, also known as the Dingri Boundary, At an altitude of 5248 meters. In the afternoon we will drive back to Shigatse.
DAY 6:
Shigatse to Lhasa: The Splendor of Tashi Lhunpo
Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, the seat of Tibet's second highest incarnation-the Panchen Lama. The immense complex is a rambling warren of chapels, shrines, and halls linked by mysterious alleyways and steep staircases.
At the center of the monastery is a courtyard that was used as a theater for religious dances. Just off the great courtyard in Tashi Lhunpo’s main hall, where, like the explorer Sven Hedin, we may hear “the monks…intone a chant…enthralling, mystical, full of yearning…soothing as a cradle, intoxicating as wine, and sedative as morphia.” We'll visit this dark and evocative chamber and its many side altars, as well as a distinctive red building called the Jamkhang Chenmo, which houses a massive yet lyrical 90-feet tall statue of Maitreya, the Future Buddha, built in 1914 by the Ninth Panchen Lama while Europe was madly at war.
DAY 9:
Namtso Lake: A Heavenly Mirror on the Roof of the World
Today you will have free time until your tour guide escorts you to the Lhasa train station or airport for your departing train or flight from Lhasa. This will end your tour services in Tibet.

What’s Excluded:
Single Room Supplement： Hotels are based on twin-share (except dormitories). Guests requesting a single room must pay the additional single supplement.
Room Costs due to Changes： As hotel rooms are prepaid, any costs caused by itinerary changes during the trip are at the guest’s own expense.
Personal Expenses： Laundry, phone calls, faxes, pay TV, drinks, snacks, alcohol, cigarettes, and other personal consumption in hotels.
Force Majeure & Special Circumstances： In case of uncontrollable or non-agency-related reasons (natural disasters, war, strikes, epidemics, airline issues, or insufficient group size), the travel agency reserves the right to cancel or alter the itinerary. Additional costs will be borne by the guest.
Transportation to/from Tibet： Airfare or train tickets to and from Tibet are not included. If booking through the travel agency is required, costs will be charged separately.
