With an average elevation of around 1,200 meters and a prime latitude of 26°N, Guizhou enjoys a mild and humid climate of approximately 15°C throughout the year, winters are never harsh, and summers are never sweltering.
The province is known for its frequent overcast skies rather than constant sunshine.
Guizhou is suitable for travel year-round, though domestic tourism peaks from June to August. If you’re looking for the most ideal months to visit, September through November offer particularly comfortable weather and breathtaking scenery.

Top Places to Visit in Guizhou
Huanggang Dong Village
If you want to truly experience Dong culture, Huanggang is a must-visit. There are no sightseeing buses, no crowds, only authentic Dong traditions and villagers who still live by them.
With more than 800 years of history, the village is centred around its majestic drum tower and over 360 traditional stilted wooden houses stand along the hillsides and beside streams, forming a graceful, terraced village silhouette.
Huanggang is renowned as the “Homeland of Male Voice Dong Grand Song.” Hearing a live performance here is a truly soul-stirring experience.
Jiabang Rice Terraces
As one of China’s three great terraced landscapes, Jiabang remains remarkably untouched by mass tourism. Stretching over 50 kilometers and covering nearly ten thousand acres, the terraces curve along the mountainside like green and gold ribbons.
In April, the fields are flooded and gleam like mirrors. Summer brings lush emerald layers, while the harvest season around early October turns the hillsides into shimmering waves of gold. The best time to visit is from April to October, when the terraces reveal their most spectacular transformations.
Maolan
Trekking through the primaeval forest is the best way to unlock the secrets of Maolan. From the summits, you’ll overlook vast karst cone forests, an ecological wonder unmatched at this latitude and rare even among the world’s karst regions.
