Guizhou

Guizhou, Where Culture Lives, Landscapes Amaze, and Traditions Continue.

Guizhou preserves some of the most authentic and vibrant ethnic cultures in China. The Miao, Dong, Shui, Buyi and other communities have lived here for generations, and many villages remain untouched by mass tourism. Experience the soaring harmonies of the Dong Grand Song—an unforgettable, soul-stirring sound. Join a Miao Long Table Banquet and the iconic “High Mountain Flowing Wine” toast. Learn traditional wax-dyeing in Gejia villages, witness the ancient and mystical Anshun Nuo Opera, and explore the colourful artistry of Miao embroidery.

But Guizhou is more than culture. For nature lovers and adventure seekers, it is a playground of geological wonders. Home to the world’s most extensive karst landscapes, Guizhou offers deep canyons, massive sinkholes, endless cave systems, and terraced fields. It is an ideal destination for caving, via ferrata, forest trekking, abseiling, rock climbing, and off-the-beaten-path exploration.

The biggest highlight of Guizhou is the festival. From the Torch Festival to the Sisters’ Festival, Miao New Year to Dong New Year, celebrations unfold throughout the seasons, earning Guizhou its reputation as one of China’s richest regions for traditional festivals.

As you journey deeper, watch sunlight break through the canopy and form breathtaking “god rays” in the untouched wilderness.

Follow village elders to learn the traditional Gejia batik technique. Patterns often center around the sun, blending natural motifs with nested geometric lines, create your own design and understanding the symbolism behind it.

Venture into the heart of Guizhou’s karst world. Descend by rope into hidden caverns, glide over underground canyons on zip-lines, and cross dark rivers by boat as echoes of ancient silence surround you—a raw and thrilling journey into the earth.

Experience a soul-stirring choral tradition without instruments, scores, or conductors. The Dong Grand Song echoes nature’s rhythm, and Eastogo arranges an exclusive performance in Huanggang Dong Village, presented by a local choir just for you. It’s an intimate cultural encounter few travellers ever witness.

Fishing in the Jiabang Terrace

Jiabang Terrace, one of China’s three great terraced landscapes, remains largely untouched by mass tourism. Step barefoot into the paddy fields and catch fish with your hands just like the locals. In the evening, enjoy your own catch—fresh and satisfying.

Top Places to Visit in Guizhou

Huanggang Dong Village

If you want to truly experience Dong culture, Huanggang is a must-visit. There are no sightseeing buses, no crowds, only authentic Dong traditions and villagers who still live by them.

With more than 800 years of history, the village is centred around its majestic drum tower and over 360 traditional stilted wooden houses stand along the hillsides and beside streams, forming a graceful, terraced village silhouette.

Huanggang is renowned as the “Homeland of Male Voice Dong Grand Song.” Hearing a live performance here is a truly soul-stirring experience.

Jiabang Rice Terraces

As one of China’s three great terraced landscapes, Jiabang remains remarkably untouched by mass tourism. Stretching over 50 kilometers and covering nearly ten thousand acres, the terraces curve along the mountainside like green and gold ribbons.

In April, the fields are flooded and gleam like mirrors. Summer brings lush emerald layers, while the harvest season around early October turns the hillsides into shimmering waves of gold. The best time to visit is from April to October, when the terraces reveal their most spectacular transformations.

Maolan

Trekking through the primaeval forest is the best way to unlock the secrets of Maolan. From the summits, you’ll overlook vast karst cone forests, an ecological wonder unmatched at this latitude and rare even among the world’s karst regions.

Descend by rope into hidden caverns, glide across subterranean canyons on zip-lines, and cross dark rivers by boat while ancient echoes resonate around you.

The classic route: Jinshi Cave → Trough Valley Forest → Wild Orchid Valley → Karst Funnel Forest → Wangpai Mountain—shows Maolan at its most diverse and magnificent. For anyone seeking true wilderness and adventure, Maolan is unmissable.
