Map & Itinerary
DAY 1:
First Encounter with the Holy City-Lasha
In Tibetan, Lhasa means “Sacred Land” or “Land of the Buddha.” It is considered the spiritual heart of Tibet. The drive from the airport to the city center takes about one hour, offering a first glimpse of the stunning highland scenery.
Today’s main goal is to acclimatize to the altitude. There are no major activities scheduled.
If you have the energy, stroll into Barkhor Street, this is one of Lhasa’s bustling neighborhoods, where you can taste authentic Tibetan cuisine and sweet tea.
DAY 2:
Tibet in Motion: From Timeless Crafts to the Living Wisdom of Sera Monastery
Tibetan Cultural Experience
Step into the soul of Tibet through its timeless crafts. Learn how to make handmade Tibetan incense, press blessings onto paper with centuries-old woodblocks, and let a master trace your name in flowing Tibetan script. Each piece you create carries not just tradition, but also a memory you’ll bring home from the plateau.
Sera Monastery
Visit Sera Monastery, a place of immense Buddhist significance — the crackling fire of wisdom echoed through debate, and the academic heart of the Gelugpa school. As the youngest of Lhasa’s three great monasteries, Sera is renowned for its centuries-old debating tradition.
Every afternoon at three, monks in crimson robes ignite the courtyard with questions and answers, their resounding claps sending white doves fluttering from the eaves. Here, profound philosophy transforms into living poetry. The debate ground is not just a stage of Buddhist scholarship, but a path of cultivating wisdom and compassion — every gesture is a physical annotation of Buddhist truth: the raised right hand symbolizes cutting through ignorance, while the lowered left hand gently turning prayer beads embodies mindfulness and continuity.
DAY 3:
Step into Tibetan Faith: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Street
Potala Palace – A World Heritage Wonder
Towering above Lhasa, the Potala Palace is the world’s highest palace and one of Tibetan Buddhism’s most sacred sites. Built in the 7th century and expanded over time, it is divided into the White Palace and the Red Palace . Inside are priceless relics, including statues of Songtsen Gampo and Shakyamuni, intricate murals, and ancient scriptures.Jokhang Temple – The Spiritual Heart of Tibet
Founded in the 7th century, Jokhang Temple is the most revered shrine in Tibet, housing the life-sized statue of the 12-year-old Shakyamuni brought by Princess Wencheng.Barkhor Street – The Living Pilgrimage Circuit
Barkhor Street began as a path for pilgrims circumambulating Jokhang Temple. Today it remains a sacred kora while also serving as a vibrant district of culture and commerce. Pilgrims, traders, and locals converge here, making it the beating heart of Lhasa’s spiritual and daily life.
DAY 4:
Travel past Yamdrok Lake and the glacier before arriving in Shigatse.
Yamdrok Lake
One of Tibet’s three great sacred lakes, Yamdrok is a freshwater lake as clear as jade and sweet enough to drink. Its deep turquoise waters merge seamlessly with distant snow-capped peaks, while colorful mountain ranges, distinctive Tibetan villages, and grazing herds of cattle and sheep line its shores — creating a landscape of pure serenity.Karola Glacier
As one of Tibet’s three great continental glaciers, the Karola Glacier rests against the southern slope of Mount Nyenchen Kangsang. Its upper section forms a gentle ice cap, while its lower section extends into two suspended ice tongues — a breathtaking sight that leaves visitors in awe.
Founded in the 7th century, Jokhang Temple is the most revered shrine in Tibet, housing the life-sized statue of the 12-year-old Shakyamuni brought by Princess Wencheng.Palcho Monastery
This is a monastery that holds an unshakable place in the history of Tibetan art.
Its murals, though dimmed by centuries of butter-lamp smoke, still reveal traces of their former brilliance — their six hundred years of age only adding a timeless, ancient beauty.
Shigatse
A city you’ll start missing even before you leave. In the evening, take a stroll through this quiet town, where the warmth of its people and the softness of local fabrics will make you fall in love instantly. Unlike Lhasa, Shigatse sees far fewer tourists, allowing its authentic Tibetan character to shine through. Here, the rich shades of Tibetan red feel even more striking and unforgettable.
DAY 5:
Chasing the golden sunrise over Mount Everest
Pang La Pass
On the road to Everest Base Camp, after navigating the 108 sharp bends, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking spectacle: a row of towering, world-class snow-capped peaks rising above the clouds. Among them is Mount Everest itself, and here you can witness four majestic giants soaring over 8,000 meters high — all at once.Rongbuk Monastery-the Closest Monastery to the Sun
Nestled at the foot of Mount Everest and encircled by towering peaks, Rongbuk was originally founded in the 8th century by Guru Rinpoche as a Nyingma monastery.
Today, it stands as one of the highest-altitude monasteries in the world. Built in the early 20th century, Rongbuk has endured more than a century of solitude, yet monks continue to keep their devotion alive in this sacred place.
Everest Base Camp
Witness the graceful majesty of the world’s highest peak. Spend a night at the foot of Mount Everest, soaking in its profound stillness. Share a cozy hotpot with travelers from around the globe, and marvel at the golden glow of sunrise over Everest and the boundless Milky Way stretching across the night sky.
DAY 6:
A Day Among Snow-Capped Peaks and Alpine Lakes
Shishapangma Nature Reserve
With a lingering glance back at Everest, continue westward to the solemn grandeur of Mount Shishapangma (8,012 m) — the only 8,000-meter peak that lies entirely within China. Rising in majestic silence above the windswept plateau, this sacred giant stands as a serene yet commanding sentinel of the Himalayas.Peiku Lake (Peigu Tso)
Known in Tibetan as the “Lake of Auspiciousness,” Peiku Lake rests quietly between Gyirong and Nyalam Counties — the largest inland lake within the Everest Nature Reserve. Encircled by snow-capped peaks and sweeping highland meadows, its turquoise waters shimmer like a vast mirror of the sky. Few places feel so remote, untouched, and serenely beautiful — a hidden sanctuary on the roof of the world.
DAY 7:
The scenery along the G219 National Highway.
Traveling along the G219 National Highway, you’ll pass through Paryang, a small town under Zhongba County. Steeped in rugged western charm, Paryang is one of the highest towns in the world at about 4,600 meters above sea level, offering sweeping views of the boundless Tibetan Plateau. Continuing onward, you’ll arrive at the sacred Lake Manasarovar, drawing ever closer to the embrace of the legendary Mount Kailash.
Mount Kailash
Located in Purang County of Tibet’s Ngari Prefecture, Mount Kailash rises 6,638 meters as the majestic centerpiece of the Gangdise Range. Universally revered as a sacred mountain, it is considered the spiritual center of the world by Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, the ancient Bon religion, and Jainism.Though not the tallest peak in the region, it is the only one whose summit remains eternally snow-capped, glimmering with an otherworldly brilliance under the sun. Its strikingly symmetrical, pyramid-like shape stands in stark contrast to the surrounding mountains, inspiring both reverence and awe. About 100 kilometers away towers Mount Naimona’nyi, and between them lie the twin sacred lakes of Manasarovar and Rakshastal, forming one of the most spiritually powerful landscapes on Earth.
DAY 8-Day 10(3days):
The one meant to carry loads became a lama
In Tibetan, Mount Kailash means “the Mountain of the Gods.” For a Tibetan Buddhist, the greatest lifelong wish is to make a pilgrimage to this sacred peak. It is said that completing one kora (circumambulation) around Mount Kailash can cleanse the sins of an entire lifetime; ten koras can free one from suffering in hell for 500 lifetimes; and a hundred koras can lead to enlightenment and Buddhahood.
From a religious perspective, this pilgrimage is not only an act of devotion and prayer to the divine, but also a profound journey of spiritual practice and awakening. In Tibetan Buddhism, pilgrimage is regarded as a vital way to accumulate merit and purify negative karma. Through this sacred journey, pilgrims gradually let go of greed, anger, and ignorance, cultivating compassion, wisdom, and other noble qualities of the heart.
Pilgrimage around the sacred mountain, embracing the unexpected, at the center of the world, collide headlong with the divine.
DAY 11:
Chasing landscapes where time forgot to pass
Tholing Monastery
Built in 996 AD, Tholing Monastery was the very first monastery established by the Guge Kingdom in the Ngari region. It was constructed specifically for the great translator Rinchen Zangpo to translate Buddhist scriptures, making it truly a thousand-year-old sacred site.
Guge Kingdom
In the winter of 1630, atop the Zanda Earth Forest at 4,700 meters, the final horn of the Guge Kingdom was swallowed by wind and snow. A hundred thousand subjects vanished like drifting sand, leaving only 72 ruined temple caves, 354 hidden military tunnels, and 24 headless mummies — a mournful full stop to one of Tibet’s most tragic civilizations, etched into the desolate plains of Ngari..Zanda Earth Forest
The Earth Forest of Zanda is one of Ngari’s most striking natural wonders. Shaped by tectonic movement and long-term erosion of ancient lakebed sediments, these dramatic formations resemble towering trees, rising in jagged layers tens of meters high. Their bizarre shapes create a surreal landscape — driving through them feels like circling around the feet of giants...
DAY 12:
The final stop on your Tibetan pilgrimage
In Saga, the air carries a fierce, exhilarating bite — a lone outpost cradled by the Himalayas, where silence feels endless and the wind tastes of snow. Once just a vital supply stop on the edge of the Ngari no-man’s-land, it has become a cherished pause for pilgrims on their way to Mount Kailash — a place where weary souls rest, wrapped in the stillness of the mountains and the romance of the high plateau’s icy embrace.
DAY 13:
One Gyirong Valley, Half the History of Tibet
Tucked into a hidden rift along the southern foothills of the Himalayas, the altitude here plunges from 5,236 meters to just 1,800. Snow-capped peaks give way to rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and ancient monasteries — a dramatic convergence of worlds. As the final stop of your Tibetan journey, the Tibetan villages beneath the snow mountains still hold their timeless charm.
Exit Tibet into Nepal via the Gyirong Border Port.
